Admission Requirements

Students may be admitted through one of two routes:

  1. Standard Admission

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree with at least a 3.0 GPA from a recognized college or university and should have completed the following undergraduate courses or their equivalents: Introduction to Psychology, Statistics, and Experimental Psychology (students with academic deficiencies may be required to take additional undergraduate courses). Applicants must submit an official transcript of all undergraduate and graduate course work, scores from the Verbal and Quantitative tests of the GRE, three letters of recommendation, and a statement about the applicant’s personal and professional goals. Other supporting information such as work or research experience, and special skills may also be requested.
  2. Admission through the B.A./M.A. dual-degree program

Applicants seeking admission to the Master’s of Arts in Psychology program through the dual-degree program must be approved for entry by the Director of Graduate Study in Psychology, whereupon they can take 1 graduate course in each semester of their senior year. Students using this option must still apply for admission to the M.A. program following the procedure for a standard admission.

Applications can be submitted on-line at http://gradstudy.rutgers.edu/apply.shtml. The deadline for Fall 2009 applications is March 31st, with rolling admissions thereafter.
